Indians Face Habersham, St. Pius Over Weekend in Basketball

The Stephens County Indian boys sweep Habersham Central in the season series between area rivals.

Saturday night, the Indian boys picked up their second win over the Raiders this season, winning 68-40 in Mt. Airy.

Stephens County outscored Habersham Central in each of the first three quarters on the way to victory and 11 different Indians scored.

De’Undre Singleton led the way for the Indians with 15 points, while Montavious Thornton had nine points and Malik Feaster added eight points.

In the girls’ game, it was Habersham Central sweeping the Lady Indians this year as the Lady Raiders won 56-30.

Tykia Thompson had another strong game, scoring 16 of the Lady Indians’ 30 points. Treasure Lone scored five points and LiLi Walker added four.

Saturday’s games against Habersham Central came after Stephens County opened region basketball play on Friday night at St. Pius.

It was a tough start to the region for both teams at St. Pius as the Lady Indians lost 62-31 and the Indian boys lost 70-68.

Kaitlyn Phillips scored 10 points Friday night against St. Pius for the Lady Indians, while Montavious Thornton led the Indian boys in scoring against St. Pius and Nunu Walker also scored in double figures.

For the season, the Indian boys are 6-3 overall and the Lady Indians are 0-10. Both teams are 0-1 in region play.

Stephens County basketball is back in action Thursday at home against Hart County.
