Indians Fall To Monroe Area

After leading 4 to 1 going to the bottom of the sixth inning, the Stephens County Indians Baseball Team lost to Monroe Area Friday night, 5 to 4, on the road in Monroe.

The Indians took the early 1 to 0 lead with an RBI single by Dylan Simpson in the first inning.

Monroe Area tied the game in the bottom of the second inning.

Stephens County broke the tie in the top of the third inning on a 2-run single by Jacob Haddock and an RBI single by Chaz Bridges.

Dawson Sorrells pitched the first 5 innings giving up only 1 run on 8 hits, but was replaced to start the sixth inning by Bridges, who walked the only 3 batters he faced.

Dawson Dean then came in and gave up an RBI single and two runs to make the score 4 to 3 at the end of the sixth inning.

Monroe scored the winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error and 3 hits.

Dean took the loss for the Indians who finished with 7 hits, compared to Monroe Area’s 12 hits.

Stephens County drops to 6-8 in the region and 10-14 overall.

Monroe Area improves to 3-11 in the region and 8-16 overall.

The Indians will play their final home game of the season tonight, which will also be Senior Night, as they host the number 2 team in the state, the Buford Wolves.
