Indians Fall To Wolves In Region Title Game

The Stephens County Indians will head into the state playoffs this coming week as the second seed out of Region 8-AAAA.

Friday, the Indians lost to Buford 42-0 in the final region game of the year on the road at Tom Riden Stadium in Buford.

Officials called the game with 7 minutes and 49 seconds left in the fourth quarter after an injury to Indians’ defensive back Micah Oglesby on a kick-off return.

Stephens County Head Coach Frank Barden provided a brief update after the game.

“He was communicating with themm and he did not lose consciousness,” said Barden. “He knew where he was at. He knew his name and he knew his family that was there around them. He was moving his extremities.”

Friday’s game was scoreless until halfway through the first quarter when Buford quarterback Mic Roof threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to his brother, fullback T.D. Roof.

Buford then scored 21 points in the second quarter, getting touchdowns on a 3-yard Christian Turner touchdown run, a 19-yard touchdown pass from Mic Roof to Anthony Grant, and a Mic Roof 21-yard touchdown run, to make it 28-0 at halftime.

The Wolves added a 17-yard touchdown run from Martin Mangram to make it 35-0 in the third quarter.

Buford wrapped up the scoring with about eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run from Jamal Singleton.

Offensively, Jackson Bell had nearly 40 yards rushing and completed 8 of 18 passes for 55 yards. A.J. Curry also had a big 33-yard catch for the Indians.

Stephens County finishes the regular season with a 8-2 overall record and a 6-1 region record.

As the second seed, the Indians are expected to host Carrollton, the third seed from Region 5-AAAA in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday.
