Indians Head to Franklin Co. To Start 2016 Football Season Tonight

A new football season starts tonight for Stephens County High School.

The Indians will head down the road to Carnesville to take on the Franklin County Lions in a non-region game.

While this is the opener for Stephens County, Franklin County started the season off last week with a 26-7 win over White County.

Stephens County has not lost to the Lions since 2009.

Indians’ Offensive Coordinator Caleb Sorrells said Franklin County is going to be fired up for the game and have talent defensively to make it hard on the Indians.

He said the key for the Indians tonight and all season long is to take what the defense is willing to give and be balanced on offense.

“We may have some 70/30 weeks that go one way, towards the run, and some that go towards the pass and we have some plays where we call run and it may end up being a pass,” said Sorrells. “It is nice to feel like we have people we can spread the ball around to. I think we will be best if we have six different people having five or more touches. That is a great place to be, to feel like I just do not have to rely on one guy. We have some weapons and if we can get it to them, I think we are going to be in good shape, whatever that looks like.”

Kick-off from Ed Bryant Stadium in Carnesville is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coverage on the new 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Indian Road Show.

Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and live pre-game coverage from the stadium starts at 7:15 p.m.
