Indians Start Football Playoffs Tonight

The second season starts tonight for the Stephens County High School football team.

Stephens County will host Carrollton tonight in the first-round of the state AAAA football playoffs.

The Indians enter the playoffs as the second seed out of Region 8-AAAA.

Stephens County is 8-2 overall on the season and finished 6-1 in region play after losing to Buford last week, 42-0.

Meanwhile, Carrollton enters tonight’s game as the third seed out of Region 5-AAAA.

The Trojans are 5-5 overall and finished 3-2 in their region after losing last week to Woodward Academy, 42-7.

However, Indians Assistant Coach Rocky Fulbright said Carrollton is a very tough opponent that has played a very tough schedule.

“Their record does not speak for what they can do,” said Fulbright. “They have played some tough teams. They have some young guys. They are very talented and explosive.”

Kick-off tonight from the Reservation is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on AM 630 WNEG with the Indian Tailgate Show.

Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from the Reservation starts at 7:15 p.m.

In other action involving Region 8-AAAA teams against Region 5-AAAA teams in tonight’s first round, top-seeded Buford hosts fourth-seed Fayette County, third seed North Hall visits second seed Sandy Creek and fourth-seed North Oconee visits Region 5-AAAA champion Woodward Academy.

A number of other area teams are in playoff action tonight.

That includes Franklin County, who visits Adairsville in the AAA playoffs, Hart County, who visits Callaway in AAA, and Rabun County, who hosts Bremen in AA.
