Indians Get Huge Road Win

North Oconee scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, but stranded the tying and go ahead runs at second and third base, and the Stephens County Indians left Bogart, Georgia with a huge 9-8 Region-8 victory on the road Wednesday night.

The Indians held a 9-4 lead heading to the bottom of the 7th, but two singles, two doubles, and two walks had the Titans sitting pretty with runners at second and third with no outs. Dawson Sorrells, on in relief of Davis Swenson, struck out the next two hitters, and got a ground ball to third to end the game.

Stephens County got clutch hitting in the game scoring two runs in the first inning, 1 in the third, 5 in the 4th, and added a very important run in the 7th. Kooper Briley led the attack with three hits, including a home run and a double, and scored three runs. Austin Page also had three hits for the Indians. Briley, Cole Beitzel and Dawson Dean had two RBI’s each, and the Indians also got RBI’s from Page, Sorrells and Bryson Fowler.

Swenson picked up the win on the mound going six innings, and Sorrells got the save.

The win keeps the Indians playoff hopes alive as they move to 4-7 in the region and 14-12 overall. The Indians now trail North Oconee by one game for the fourth spot in the Region as the Titans fall to 5-6 and 11-11 overall. The two teams will face off again in a huge game on Friday at The Reservation. Airtime is 5:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5:55 on WNEG.
