Indians Tame Dragons; Lady Indians Fall to Jefferson

A.J. Curry sank the second of two free throws with just over 20 seconds to go in the game and the Stephens County Indians survived a couple of late shots to get a big Region 8-AAAA basketball win Tuesday night at Jefferson, 54-53.

The Indians trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half and were down eight at the half, but rallied to tie the score at the end of the third quarter and took their first lead at the beginning of the fourth period.

De’Undra Singleton led Stephens County with 16 points, NuNu Walker had 15, and Curry added 11.

With the win, the Indians improve to 2-3 in Region 8-AAAA and 13-5 overall.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Indians lost to Jefferson, 61-15.

With the loss, the Lady Indians fell to 2-17 overall and 1-4 in the region.

Both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are back in action on Friday at home against St. Pius starting at 7 p.m.
