Indians Travel to Blue Ridge, S.C. for Football Tonight

The Indian football team makes its longest road trip of the regular season tonight to wrap up the non-region schedule.

Stephens County heads east tonight to visit Blue Ridge High School in South Carolina in a non-region gridiron contest.

Coming into tonight, the Indians are 1-1 on the year.

Last week, Stephens County lost a tough one to Elbert County, 34-30, in the Granite Bowl.

Meanwhile, Blue Ridge is also 1-1 on the season, coming off a 27-18 win over J.L. Mann in a game that was played on Monday because of storms last Friday night.

Indian Defensive Line Coach Brad Whitfield said he watched Monday’s game in person and came away impressed with the Tigers.

He said a key for the Indians is going to be establishing the run behind a strong offensive line.

“When you are as big as we are up front, you have to be able to run the football and I think coach has pretty much sold out this year to establishing the run game early in the game as much as he can,” said Whitfield. “I am sure that he will do that.”

Last year, Stephens County beat Blue Ridge at the Reservation, 28-0, behind an Indian defense that allowed less than 200 yards.

Kick-off tonight at Blue Ridge High School, located in the Greer, South Carolina area, is 7:30 p.m.

Air time on AM 630 WNEG starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the Indian Road Show.

Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. with pre-game coverage starting at 7:15 p.m. from the stadium.
