Investigation Continues Into Weekend Hit and Run

Authorities are still investigating a hit and run incident that occurred over the weekend.

It happened on New Year’s Day night on Currahee Street in Toccoa.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that a vehicle crossed the center line on Currahee Street and hit another vehicle, causing an accident.

Jarrell said the vehicle that crossed the center line then left the scene of the accident.

According to Jarrell, the driver of the vehicle that was hit was transported to Stephens County Hospital with what were termed as non life-threatening injuries.

As for the other vehicle, authorities then located an abandoned vehicle on Fern Valley Drive, just off of Currahee Street, that may have been connected to the incident.

Jarrell said at the same time, residents in that area called authorities, saying a male subject was standing in their yard.

Toccoa Police and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office then began a search in that area, using the assistance of K-9 units from Habersham County and Lee Arrendale Correctional Facility.

Nobody was found as a result of the search.

Jarrell said that police do have leads they are following up on.
