Jamieson To Serve As Toccoa Mayor in 2017

A long-time local politician will officially take the mayoral reins in Toccoa in 2017.

Jeanette Jamieson was unanimously chosen by her fellow Toccoa City Commissioners to serve as Mayor for the next calendar year at Monday’s meeting.

Jamieson, a former State Representative and Stephens County Commissioner, is currently in her first term on the city commission.

This past year, she served as Vice Mayor.

She said she appreciates the opportunity to serve the city as Mayor in the year ahead.

“It is my first time and I am honored to be elected Mayor of the City of Toccoa because as responsible of a position it is, I think the current mayor said it tonight as well as anybody and that is about the excellent staff that we have for the City of Toccoa,” said Jamieson. “From those at City Hall to the gas department, the street department, every one of the venues that we are responsible for, we have excellent employees. That makes the job of Mayor much easier than it might be and I am delighted.”

Meanwhile, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously chose David Austin to serve as Vice Mayor for 2017.

The Toccoa City Commission rotates the positions of Mayor and Vice Mayor yearly among the five commissioners.
