Jamieson Wants City To Look at Making Veterans Day a City Holiday

One Toccoa City Commissioner is calling on the city to re-visit whether to have city offices be open on Veterans Day.

Commissioner Jeanette Jamieson brought the issue up at Monday’s Toccoa City Commission meeting.

Jamieson said she wants the city to consider making that a city holiday moving forward.

“During our next work session, I would very much appreciate it if we could consider having Veterans’ Day off,” said Jamieson. “It certainly makes us look like we do not appreciate the role that our veterans play when the county closes, the banks close and so forth and local governments close, but we are open. I know that was our decision. I know we talked about it long and hard, but I very much would like that to be an issue we discuss at our next work session.”

Stephens County Government offices were closed for Veterans Day this year, but the county’s trash convenience sites were open.

Also on Veterans Day, banks and post offices are closed as it is a federal holiday.
