Job Fair in Habersham County Thursday

The Georgia Department of Labor and several other local organizations are teaming up to sponsor a career expo in Habersham County Thursday.

It will run from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Student Commons Building at Piedmont College on Georgia Street in Demorest.

Teaming up with the Labor Department for Thursday’s expo are the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce, Habersham Employer Committee, and Northeast Georgia Employer Committee.

Thursday’s job fair will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers.

Danette Smith is the Regional Coordinator for Economic Development for the 13-county Georgia Mountains region.

She said the response from employers around the region has been tremendous.

“Right now, we have right at 35 or so employers and resource agencies registered to attend on Thursday,” said Smith, who added they are still getting calls about people signing up.

Among those who have already registered to participate are ASI Southeast, Davis Transfer, Express Employment Professionals, Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, Kings Hawaiian, Lee Arrendale State Prison, Lumite, Medlink Georgia, Portwatch Productions, Rue 21 and Standard Register.

According to organizers, some employers will be hiring for a wide variety of jobs, while others will discuss future employment opportunities, and some organizations will provide educational and other resources.

Smith said that people attending the expo should come with the mindset they are on an interview the minute they walk through the door because they could be talking to their future employer.

“In the way they dress and present themselves at the job fair and the way they converse with employers,” said Smith. “They should bring several copies of their resume.”

Smith said job seekers should go there and look at the list of employers and target which ones they want to talk to ahead of time.
