July 4th Boating Statistics In

State Department of Natural Resources law enforcement officers are reporting some final numbers for the holiday weekend.

According to the DNR, there were 11 boating incidents statewide with eight injuries, but no boating fatalities for the holiday period.

That Fourth of July holiday period went from 12:01 a.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

However, the DNR said there were five drownings and 32 BUI arrests.

By comparison last year, rangers reported 11 boating incidents with 10 injuries and one fatality, along with no drownings and 36 BUI arrests last year.

Rangers also said that this year, there were many more “designated skippers,” which they say probably contributed to the slightly lower BUI numberes.

Meanwhile on Hartwell, numbers reported by accessnorthga.com indicate that there was one boating incident with one injury over the weekend, along with one BUI arrest.
