Lady Indians Beat Buford

The Stephens County Lady Indian softball team knocks off the defending AAAA softball state champs and top-ranked AAAA team at home.

Stephens County beat Buford Tuesday at the Reservation, 2-0.

Freshman Emma Whitfield allowed just one hit to the Lady Wolves and struck out 11.

Meanwhile on offense, Natalie Morgan had a triple, two singles and an RBI, Brynn Roberts had two singles and Ivey Andrews had a single.

Lady Indians’ Head Coach Dave Poffenburger said a win like this is a tremendous boost for the team.

“We feel like the girls know now they beat a great team and they can beat anybody,” he said. “I have been telling them that all year and they proved that tonight.”

The Lady Indians are now 9-3 overall and 2-2 in region play.

Buford falls to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the region.

As for the JV softball team, they lost for the first time this season, dropping their game to Buford, 7-0.

Stephens County’s JV and varsity softball teams are both back home tonight for a non-region game against Hart County at the Reservation.
