Lake Harbor Shores Resident Wants Water Line

A resident in a Lake Hartwell subdivision is asking the city of Toccoa for a water line to be installed to serve about 10 homes in need of a better water supply.

Buddy Trexler spoke to Toccoa City Commissioners at their meeting on Monday.

He lives in the Lake Harbor Shores subdivision and says that some of the homes in that subdivision have a major problem with their current water system.

Trexler said that the current well water set-up in place for part of Lake Harbor Shores is not sufficient or cost-effective for residents that are on it.

“The feed line are old, they are constantly having leaks out there,” said Trexler. “Last year, we had to pay $700 per resident to have water to our house and it will probably be more this year.”

Trexler said he wants the city to pay for and install a trunk water line down Sequoia Trail, currently a private drive, that would provide access to water for 10 homes in the subdivision that would pay for lines to be run from their home to the trunk line.

Stephens County Commissioners were approached in August about making Sequoia Trail a county road to allow the city to run the water line and county commissioners said then they would discuss it with the city.

According to Trexler, the trunk line would cost an estimated $93,500.

He suggested using SPLOST money.

Meanwhile, City Commissioner Terry Carter asked if they could use the existing lines for well water to access city water all the time since Trexler noted that in an emergency, the city water can be accessed through those lines.

However, Toccoa Utilities Director Harry Scott said that the lines could not handle that level of water pressure on a consistent basis as they are built right now.

City commissioners said they will look at the issue during a future work session.
