Lavonia Police are investigating a burglary at the Mobil convenience store on Hwy 17.

It happened in the early morning hours Wednesday, according to Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle.

“The suspects entered the store by breaking through the back wall,” Carlisle said. “They fled with an undisclosed amount of money. We have recovered a large portion of money that the suspects dropped or lost as they were leaving the store. We’re following leads as they come in.”

Carlisle said the entire store had been ransacked and he said investigators believe it may have been an inside job.

“The suspects took the entire surveillance system, which is one of the reasons we believe it was someone familiar with the inside of the building,” Carlisle said. “Again, we’re following leads as they come in and a good bit of evidence has been collected.”

Carlisle says they expect to make an arrest in this case soon.
