A Lawrenceville woman ends up in the hospital after leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase through several counties.

It started late Thursday night in Barrow County, according to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas.

“Franklin County Sheriff’s office was alerted to the chase by Franklin County 911,” Thomas said. “The chase began in Braselton on I-85, then went through Commerce on 85, and then into Franklin County. State Patrol from Gainesville, the Hartwell Post and MCCD Units were also involved in the chase.”

According to Thomas, the vehicle got off the Interstate at Exit 160 and proceeded down Georgia Highway 51 at a high rate of speed.

Thomas said the vehicle was finally stopped by Georgia State Patrol troopers.

“The Georgia State Patrol did the PIT maneuver because of the aggressive driving and because the driver failed to stop, and to keep the driver from hitting oncoming traffic head-on,” Thomas said. “The driver left the road, lost control and overturned. Fire and rescue EMS responded to the scene and also a helicopter from AnMed. The driver was extricated and was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.”

Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post Spokesman Corporal Matt Baxley identified the victim as 38-year old Karen Meyer of Lawrenceville.

Meyer is charged with possession of methamphetamine, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, reckless driving and DUI.

She was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center, but at last report, her condition was not known.
