Leader Dog Program Continues To Benefit Area Residents

lions clubA national program helps yet another Toccoa resident.

Recently, Toccoa resident David Chase completed Leader Dog training in Michigan and returned home with his dog, “Shadow.”

“Shadow” helps David, who has vision problems, get around.

That is according to state Leader Dog representative and Toccoa Lions Club member Bill Graham.

Graham said that David is the third Toccoa resident in the last four years or so to go through the Leader Dog training in Michigan.

He said that it is a great program that benefits a lot of people.

“When someone goes to Leader Dog, there is no cost to that individual, ” said Graham. “Leader Dog helps people who are homebound and afraid to go out because of a vision problem.”

The Leader Dog program is one that the Toccoa Lions Club, along with Lions clubs around the country, support on a yearly basis.

Meanwhile, this past weekend, a group of Toccoa Lions helped support Leader Dog by going to the Atlanta Braves’ game on Saturday.

It was Lions Night at the Braves and Graham said the Leader Dog program benefited from the ticket sales.

“$10 of every ticket that sold to someone participating in that program goes to Leader Dog,” he explained.

Graham went on to say that everyone had a good time on Saturday.

“We have a tailgate party before the game,” said Graham. “We have fun, fellowship, food, and then go to the game.”

He also complimented the Braves for their hospitality.
