Longtime SCSO Deputy Being Laid To Rest Today

Services are scheduled for today for a long-time Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Roy Lee McCurley passed away Sunday at the age of 69.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that McCurley served in a variety of roles with the Sheriff’s Office, including deputy and investigator, for more than 30 years.

“Hired in 1985, he worked with not only my father (former Sheriff Don Shirley), but also former Sheriff Gene Sorrells, and worked with me,” said Shirley. “He retired for a short time and then came back to work. He had a big heart and was a servant and was a consummate law enforcement officer. He will truly be missed.”

Shirley said his prayers go out to McCurley’s family and those who McCurley has touched over the years.

Funeral services for McCurley will be at 1 p.m. today at Ebenezer Baptist Church with burial to follow at Eastanollee Baptist Church Cemetery.

The Hall County Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
