Man Rescued From Clarkesville Tree

Rescue 1A man is okay after being rescued from a tree last week in Habersham County.

It happened on Tuesday afternoon on the 200 block of Spring Street in Clarkesville.

According to Clarkesville Fire Chief Jerry Palmer, a man, whose identity was not released, was working to take down a tree and was climbing that tree and removing limbs as he went up in anticipation of the tree then coming down.

Palmer said that when the man got about 55 to 60 feet in the air, something happened and he took the wrong limb.

That, Palmer said, caused the climbing tree stand the man was using to become dislodged and the man had to grab onto the tree in order to keep from falling.

911 was called and Clarkesville firefighters quickly arrived on scene.

However, Palmer said the man was having trouble holding on and Clarkesville did not have a truck that could get high enough to rescue the man.

At that point, Palmer said the Demorest Fire Department responded for mutual aid with its ladder truck that could reach the man in the tree.

After about 20 minutes, Palmer said the man was rescued from the tree and safely back on the ground.

According to Palmer, the man was not injured physically but was visibly shaken from the incident.

Palmer said the incident was a great example of teamwork between the Clarkesville and Demorest fire departments.

He also credited the quick, yet calm actions of firefighters that made sure the call turned out okay.
