Martin Resident Wins NGTC GOAL Award

North Georgia Technical College awards an area resident with one of its top honors.

At a recent Habersham Rotary meeting, Ashley Jordan of Martin was announced as the North Georgia Technical College Georgia Occupational Award for Leadership, or GOAL, winner for 2014.

GOAL is a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia.

It honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.

Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 25 technical colleges.

At North Georgia Technical College, students representing 13 programs from across all three of North Georgia Technical College’s campuses were nominated as candidates to represent North Georgia Technical College in the state competition.

GOAL candidates are nominated by an instructor and must carry at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate strong work ethics and leadership skills.

Through a series of competitive interviews and speeches conducted by North Georgia Tech faculty and staff, a list of the top twelve was narrowed down to four who were selected for advanced competition.

Jordan was selected as the winner from that group of four.

She will now advance to represent NGTC at the region level which will be held March 4 at LanierTechnicalCollege.

North Georgia Technical College President Dr. Gail Thaxton said the GOAL program allows the school to highlight exemplary achievement and professionalism at the college through the success of its students.

Thaxton also said it is an honor for North Georgia Tech to have the community support through the Rotary and the area Chambers as it celebrates these exceptional students and their teachers.
