Mayfield Signs With Alabama A&M

A Stephens County High School softball player will continue her career at the next level.

On Friday, Raina Mayfield signed to play college softball next year at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama.

Alabama A&M is a Division I school in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Mayfield said she is excited to continue her career at the Division I level.

She said Alabama A&M just feels like the right fit.

“I went on a lot of visits and this time, the coach looked me in the eye,” said Mayfield. “It felt real this time.”

Mayfield went on to say that she may be moving positions a little bit at the next level after talking to her future college coach.

“She said she kind of wants me to play center because of my footwork and my arm, but in high school, I played right so that will be an adjustment,” said Mayfield. “I do not think it will be a tough adjustment. I just think I will have to work a little harder in the off-season.”

Off the field, Mayfield says she wants to study to become an occupational therapist.
