Morgan’s Hardware Owner Thankful for Lavonia Fire Department’s Quick Response

The owner of Morgan’s Hardware in downtown Lavonia is thanking the local fire department for saving his historic store.

Fire broke out at the store Sunday morning.

Store Owner Eddie Floyd said a passerby saw the fire and called for help.

“It was an electrical problem,” said owner Eddie Floyd. “Apparently, it came in on one of our lines and shorted out our main panel box in one of our buildings. A customer came by on his way to church Sunday morning and saw the fire and called 911. Immediately, the fire department responded very quickly and held it to almost no damage.”

Floyd, a former Lavonia firefighter himself, said he is grateful for the department’s quick response.

“The emergency response times were great and I have nothing but great things to say about them,” Floyd said. “I was a firefighter for several years and I was always the one on the other side of the hose. But when you’re the person actually needing them, it sure is nice to have them and have them do a professional job.”

Power is still out on the section of Morgan’s Hardware where the fire broke out, but Floyd said it was back to business as usual Monday morning.

“Oh yeah, business as usual just as it always was,” he said. “We had to do a little temporary power but we got everything going. We have to replace our front door because that’s how they (firefighters) entered our building. We still have to do a little bit with our power panel to get that wrapped up and buttoned up, but that’s all there was.”

Morgan’s Hardware is one of the oldest businesses in Franklin County.
