Motorcycle accident leaves Hartwell man in critical condition

A motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon leaves a victim in critical condition.

The victim, identified as Wayne Witcher of Hartwell was riding in a benefit fundraiser for a young girl suffering from Leukemia on Saturday afternoon.

Witcher encountered a sharp curve at the intersection of Red Rock Road and Rock Creek Church Road when witnesses tell WNEG News that it looked as if he over braked with the front brakes, which kicked the back end of his bike around.

When the bike hit the grass, Witcher was ejected and propelled through the air. He landed on another bike’s crash bar head and then face first on the asphalt.

Witcher was not breathing and one female rider and one male rider began performing CPR within seconds of the accident.

According to Shirley, Witcher began breathing on his own after 10 minutes of CPR. He was life flighted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he went into surgery due to bleeding on the brain.

Witcher is currently in critical condition in ICU and according to his wife, he squeezed her hand yesterday.

Services at Witcher’s church, Cross Creek Baptist Church in Anderson were cancelled last night so that church members could be at the hospital praying for him.
