New Fireworks Date Announced

The Stephens County Recreation Department has announced a new date for the fireworks display that was postponed earlier this month.

Recreation Department Director Richard Adams says that the fireworks will now take place on July 30 at the Rose Lane Recreation Complex.

This is after the fireworks were postponed back last Thursday, July 2, due to threat of inclement weather.

Speaking of fireworks, Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says that his office received numerous calls over the holiday weekend regarding fireworks.

The state of Georgia legalized the sale and use of fireworks as of July 1.

Shirley says that the calls to his office were from residents complaining about the large fireworks, bottle rockets falling on houses, the 2 a.m. cutoff time for the use of fireworks, farm animals who had difficulty with more noise, and the effect of the fireworks on veterans with PTSD.
