New Girls Basketball Coach Named At SCHS

Stephens County High School has a new girls’ basketball coach.

The Stephens County Board of Education has approved Scott Strickland as a teacher and coach for next school year.

Strickland is currently an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Banks County High School.

Stephens County High School Athletic Director Frank Barden said Strickland is originally from Franklin County.

“He comes from a family that was very well rooted in education,” said Barden. “His dad was a long-time coach at Winder and Franklin County. His mom is in the education system in Banks County.”

Barden went on to say that Strickland is young, energetic, and ready to get started.

“I think that is good for us sometimes when we can bring some new ideas and some young guys in here that have a lot of energy,” said Barden. “He has already met with our girls and they are excited and they get their summer schedule set and just to have a face to put with who is going to be running the program is big. I have talked to a lot of our girls. They are excited and I know Scott is excited to be a part of Stephens County and I think he will do a great job.”

Strickland replaces Jerry Brown, who returned to coach the Lady Indians this past season following the sudden resignation of Anthony Daniel in the Fall.
