New Year’s Traffic Numbers Released

The Georgia Department of Public Safety said 13 people were killed on Georgia highways over the New Year’s holiday period.

State officials released the final count on Monday.

This year’s New Year holiday period in Georgia ran from 6 p.m. Thursday to midnight Sunday for a total of 78 hours.

Three of the traffic fatalities were reported by the Georgia State Patrol post in Gainesville.

Georgia State Patrol posts in Villa Rica, Grovetown, Swainsboro, Dublin and Hinesville also reported fatalities.

Other agencies reporting traffic fatalities over the New Year’s holiday period include police departments in Atlanta, Gwinnett County, and Columbus, as well as the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
