Thursday, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for NGPG Toccoa Clinic, the former Toccoa Clinic, at its administrative offices in the Foothills Centre on Big A Road in Toccoa.

The Northeast Georgia Physicians Group took over the clinic last Fall and put it under the NGPG umbrella.

David Cronic is the Executive Director.

He said the clinic is celebrating a milestone this year, along with a rebirth.

“It is time to celebrate our 70th birthday, so this is kind of our event for that celebration,” said Cronic. “It is very important for us to move forward with a sense of celebration because it is a renewed commitment for service to this community. Our intent is to stay here. Our intent is to grow. Our intent is to bring healthcare services to Toccoa to make Toccoa a hub for medical services throughout this northern region of the state.”

Cronic said the clinic’s service area is more than 100,000 people, which is a sufficient population to support a lot of medical specialties.

He went on to say that it will continue to be a multi-specialty group.

“We are very strongly primary care at that point in time and that is where a lot of opportunities will present itself and in particularly in working with the local hospital that is here,” said Cronic. “There will be some specialties where that provider needs to live in Stephens County, needs to work solely at Stephens County Hospital. That is where its medical staff, its privileges will be.”

However, Cronic said there will be other specialties where that provider will be better to visit the community one or two days a week.
