NGTC Gets Driver’s Ed Grant

North Georgia Technical College receives a grant for its Driver’s Education program.

The school announced this week that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of $17,840 from the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission.

School officials said the grant will help finance driver’s education locally by providing classes of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours behind the wheel experience with a trained instructor.

This grant runs from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016,

Georgia Driver’s Education Commission Chairman Harris Blackwood said that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers, and the agency is committed to providing students with the education and experience needed to avoid tragedy.

Blackwood added that this grant has and will continue to help North Georgia Technical College equip young drivers in the community to be safer when they get behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, North Georgia Technical College Driver’s Education Program Manager Carol Jackson said that residents in the school’s service area are so excited about enrolling their students in this driver’s education program that classes are almost completely filled through March of 2016.

Jackson said the school is pleased to offer this needed program for our community.
