No Move Yet on Ledford Vacancy on Stephens Co. BOE

The Stephens County Board of Education has yet to move forward on filling the seat left vacant by the resignation last month of Jim Ledford.

School board members did not discuss the matter Tuesday.

According to Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, the Board of Education has yet to receive notice from the governor that he has accepted the resignations of Ledford or of Jeff Webb, who resigned his school board seat in April.

Ledford was set to serve through the end of December.

He was defeated in a re-election bid in May by Mark Smith, who is set to start his four-year term in January.

Meanwhile, Dorsey said that the Board of Education will be moving forward with interviews of the candidates who have applied to fill Webb’s seat for the remainder of his term, which runs through the end of 2018.

Those interviews will take place over two days, starting on July 7 and continuing on July 14.
