One Year In, Morse Says Golf Course Property Doing Well

One year after its re-opening, the Links at Lake Toccoa continues to grow.

That’s according to Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse.

City officials cut the ribbon on the re-opened golf course back on September 3, 2015.

After one year, Morse said that operations at the nine-hole golf course are going well.

“We have hired Todd Voyles, who is a Stephens County native and has a long history of golf course management maintenance, and I think he has done a wonderful job with the pro shop operations and keeping the course, in what has probably been a tough year, remember we have had little rain and it has been hot, looking better than it has in a long time,” said Morse.

Morse said things are also going well with the operations of Ping’s Grill at the golf course, which opened to the public back in June.

Also this year, the city purchased 48 acres of land adjoining the golf course to further protect the Lake Toccoa watershed and use that property in environmentally sensitive ways.

Moving forward, Morse said more is planned for the Lake Toccoa property.

“We bought the old Reflections restaurant building,” said Morse. “We own that and are beginning to renovate that in hopes that next Spring, we will have that open to the public as an events center. We are continuing to seek for grants. We want to put a walking trail around the lake and some features as well, including a fishing pier and pavilion where folks could have weddings and that sort of thing.”

Morse said the city continues to view the Lake Toccoa property as more than just a golf course, but a recreational area for all citizens.
