Power of Hope Hosting Annual “Focus on Cancer” Dinner Tonight

If you are struggling with cancer or have a family member or loved one with cancer, you will want to take time this evening to attend a special dinner event at Lavonia First Baptist Church.
The Power of Hope – a local non-profit group that raises money to help cancer victims and their families is holding their annual “Focus on Cancer” evening tonight beginning at 6p in the church’s Family Life Center.
Power of Hope founder Mary Jo Fesperman said the fifth annual event is a time to come together with others who are also struggling and to learn about what’s being done to fight this disease.
“It’s a night of caring and sharing and coming together in the community that we cover, which is Hart, Franklin and Stephens counties,” said Fesperman. “For all the caregivers, the cancer patients and their family members and generally anyone in the public that’s interested in knowing more about cancer or about Power of Hope.”
The seminar is free and open to the public and includes a free dinner served thanks to the sponsorship of Rushton & Associates and Zell Engineers.
According to Fesperman, in addition to dinner, volunteers will be on hand to help cancer patients and a number of local vendors will be on hand as well.
“There will be hosts and hostesses that will be assigned to each and every cancer patient or their family member that would like to have a companion for the evening to walk around and to have dinner with and to talk with,” said Fesperman. “There are vendors that will be set up around the perimeter of the wall inside the building. This is any business in Hart, Franklin or Stephens counties or other counties that have products that would be of use or benefit to a cancer patient or their family.”
Vendors this year include Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic, St Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital and Physical Therapy Department, The Power of Hope, Royston Diagnostic Center, All About You, Franklin County Health Department, Affinis Hospice, Encompass Healthcare, Gentiva Hospice  and Aero Care.
Each vendor will have a door prize to give away later in the evening.
Special guest speaker at this year’s event will be the Rev. Dick Patton, one of the assistant pastors at Lavonia First Baptist Church.
Additionally, current cancer patients and cancer survivors will also be on hand to speak.
Fesperman said this is a casual, drop-in event.
“This is a go and come evening, if you get tired and you want to leave, you just feel free throughout the evening to leave whenever you’d like to,” said Fesperman.
Again, tonight’s Focus on Cancer takes place at 6p this evening at Lavonia First Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall.
The church is located at the corner of SR59 and Bowman St. in Lavonia.
