PowerHouse Hoping to Get “Lindsey” the Giraffe Back

Officials at PowerHouse for Kids say they hope to see “Lindsey” the giraffe returned safe and sound.

The giraffe statue, which for years has stood outside of the Stephens County facility, was stolen last week.

PowerHouse for Kids is a Child Advocacy Center that serves and helps children who have been abused.

“Lindsey the Giraffe” was given to PowerHouse for Kids back in 2012 and named in honor and memory of Lindsey Worley, a survivor and nurse who helped at PowerHouse and was killed in a motor vehicle accident.

Ruthie Zoellner works at PowerHouse for Kids.

She said the giraffe is a major part of the facility.

“It serves as a landmark for them (the kids), to tell people where we are at,” said Zoellner. “It is a comfort for the kids. When they see the giraffe, it makes them feel safe.”

Zoellner went on to say that not having the statue out front has been noticeable.

“I think it is sad for the kids because they do look for the giraffe,” said Zoellner. “They go out there. They touch her and we have people stop and take pictures all the time. Everybody misses her, but especially us here at PowerHouse.”

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that his office is investigating the case and following up on any leads.

Zoellner said they are hopeful that “Lindsey the Giraffe” will be returned safe and sound.

“I hope that we are able to find her and she is able to come back home,” said Zoellner. “We do miss her and want her back.”

If anyone has further information regarding the location of the statue or the person or people responsible for stealing it, they should call the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division at 706-886-7048.
