Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner This Weekend in Toccoa

An annual Pre-Thanksgiving tradition takes place this weekend.

The men of Friendship Baptist Church will sponsor their 20th annual Sandra Harbin Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner for Senior Citizens on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club on Whitman Street in Toccoa.

Co-organizer Randolph Sherman said they are looking forward to marking 20 years of this dinner this year.

“We are expecting a good crowd to come together,” said Sherman. “We are looking to do over 1000 dinners. To qualify, you have to be 55 or over.”

This is a free dinner for senior citizens.

Sherman says that the first 100 attendees to the dinner will receive a gift.

He added that carry-outs will be provided for those who are unable to attend.

“From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., we will be handing out carry-outs,” said Sherman.

Following the dinner, starting at 2:30 p.m. at the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club, will be the Wendell Sherman Memorial Gospel Concert.

Sherman said this is free for the entire community to attend.

“We have some good people coming in to sing,” said Sherman. “We have the Mount Zion Men of Gospel coming in. We have Anointed Angels.”

Also performing are Shauna Fortson, David Fry, and others.

Sherman said they appreciate everyone who supports the dinner and concert each year and look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.
