Qualifying Ends Today in Toccoa, Martin

Qualifying ends today for municipal elections in Toccoa and Martin.

Those wanting to qualify to run for one of the two city commission races on the ballot this November in Toccoa must do so before 4:30 p.m. today with Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler at her office in ToccoaCity   Hall in downtown Toccoa.

Post 3 and Post 5 are the two open city commission seats that candidates can qualify for.

The qualifying fee is $252.

Post 3 is currently held by Andy Pavliscsak.  Ron Seib holds Post 5.  Both have previously stated that they did not intend to run for re-election.

As of Thursday afternoon, two candidates had qualified for city commission, one for each of the two posts available.

Former State Representative Jeanette Jamieson qualified to run for Post 3, while Toccoa Planning Commission member Evan Hellenga qualified to run for Post 5.

Meanwhile, Martin qualifying takes place at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office at the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa.

Those wanting to qualify to run for either Mayor in Martin or one of the two council seats up for election this year must do so by 4:30 p.m. today.

As of Thursday afternoon, only incumbents had qualified in Martin, with Mayor Don Foster and council members Sandi Stovall and Roger Looney filing to run for re-election.

The qualifying fee for Mayor in Martin is $111 and the council member qualifying fee is $90.
