Rain May Finally Arrive This Week

Stephens County and the surrounding area could see its most significant rainfall in months over the next several days.

There is a chance of rain of at least 50 percent beginning tonight and continuing all the way through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, northeast Georgia could see three inches or more of rain between this afternoon and Thursday morning.

The Weather Service is projecting the highest totals in the Northeast Georgia and western North Carolina mountains, the same areas where wildfires have been burning for weeks.

Rainfall like this would help the drought situation in the area.

Heading into this forecasted rain event, Stephens County, all surrounding counties in Georgia, and a third of the state overall are in exceptional drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, which is the most severe level on the drought monitor.
