Region 8-AAAA Basketball Tourney Starts Today

The Stephens County High School basketball teams will begin their post-season today, looking to clinch state playoff berths.

Today is the first round of the Region 8-AAAA boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments at Jefferson High School.

Both the Indians and Lady Indians are in action in the first round.

The Lady Indians are the fifth seed on the girls’ side of the bracket and will play the fourth seed, Madison County, in the tournament’s opening game at 4 p.m.

If the Lady Indians win, they will clinch a berth in the state playoffs and move on to play Jefferson in the semi-finals on Friday.

The other girls’ game today is third-seeded St. Pius taking on sixth-seeded Oconee County. North Oconee is the second seed and has a bye awaiting the winner of that game.

Moving to the boys’ side, Stephens County is the third seed and will play sixth-seeded Jefferson tonight at 8:30 p.m.

If the Indian boys win, they will move onto the state playoffs and a date with second-seeded Madison County in the semi-finals on Friday.

The other boys’ game today is fourth-seeded North Oconee taking on fifth-seeded Oconee County, with the winner playing top-seed St. Pius, who has a bye into the semi-finals.

Air time today for the girls’ game from Jefferson is 3:45 p.m. on WNEG and wnegradio.com and air time for the boys’ game is 8:15 p.m. tonight.
