Ribbon Cutting Held for Gift Shop

The gift shop at the Currahee Military Museum wants people to know it is not just for visitors to the museum.

Thursday, the Currahee Exchange Gift Shop, or the Military Museum Gift Shop, at the historic train depot in downtown Toccoa, had a Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony.

Stephens County Historical Society Executive Director Brenda Carlan said that they want people to know they are open seven days a week and that it is open to the public.

“When you have a museum such as ours with visitors that come from all over the world, they all assume that there is a gift shop and a lot of them will buy stuff to take back to wherever they are going, but we want to put our name out there and services out there for the community,” said Carlan. “Just let them know we are not just a museum gift shop, that we have a lot of different items that may appeal to different people for different reasons and different gift giving.”

The gift shop is located at the far end of the historic train depot, near the Mitchell Allen Meeting Room, on Alexander Street in downtown Toccoa.

It is open seven days a week.

Mondays through Saturdays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and it is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
