Rickman Named to Court of Appeals

brian rickmanMountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brian Rickman is one of three new judges on the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Governor Nathan Deal announced Rickman’s appointment, along with two others, on Thursday.

These three judgeships are new ones created by the passage of House Bill 279 during the 2015 legislative session.

Rickman made it through multiple rounds of interviews, ultimately being chosen by the Governor out of a list of 11 finalists named by the state’s Judicial Nominating Commission.

He has served as the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney, serving Stephens, Habersham, and Rabun counties, since 2008.

Before that, Rickman served as an Assistant District Attorney and a private practice attorney.

Also, the Rabun County resident is an adjunct professor and serves on the board of trustees at Piedmont College.

Rickman earned a bachelor’s degree from Piedmont College and a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Rickman’s term on the Georgia Court of Appeals will start on January 1, 2016 and continue through December 31, 2018.

Joining him as new members of the Georgia Court of Appeals are Appalachian Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Amanda Mercier and Board of Regents Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs and Secretary Nels S.D. Peterson.
