Roof Work Underway At Toccoa City Hall

Crews are beginning work on the roof at Toccoa City Hall.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said John’s Roofing is currently replacing the roof on the newer part, or the addition, at the back of City Hall, as well as the roof for the part of the building that connects the addition to the original building.

Morse said that the roof was in need of repair.

“The addition was built in 1991, so it has been 25 years,” said Morse. “It was in pretty bad shape. We had some leaks in the buildings, so obviously that needed to be corrected. The best way to do that was to apply a new roof treatment.”

This roof work is costing the city $74,000 and funding for it is coming from allocated monies collected through SPLOST VI.

While this work is taking place, Morse said it is disrupting the drive-thru and parking lot at Toccoa City Hall.

He said the city apologizes for any inconvenience.

“The drive-thru window has been closed for several days and I know that additional parking not being there has overflowed out onto the street parking so it has been a little inconvenient for folks, but the process is going to go pretty fast, we believe,” said Morse.

The handicap ramp is also currently not available, according to city officials, who say that anyone who needs assistance should call City Hall at 706-886-8451.

Morse said this roof work should take about three weeks to complete.

After that, he said plans are to hopefully work on the roof on the original part of the building.

He said after the roof work, more renovations are planned.

“We have some interior renovations that are planned, not exactly sure yet what that is all going to include,” said Morse. “Certainly, flooring, painting, general renovations and improvements. We will get to that as soon as we have made the roof weather-tight.”

Morse said SPLOST VI funds will also be used for those renovations.
