Rotary Club to Host Annual Top 5 Banquet Tomorrow

The Rotary Club of Toccoa will host its annual Top 5 Banquet tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa.  Those students earning the coveted Top 5 percent title will be recognized at the banquet.

Stephens County High School graduating seniors in the Top Five percent of the graduating class are awarded a $1,000 scholarship to apply to their college education.

Toccoa Rotary Club President Tammy Riddle told WNEG News why the Top Five is important.

“We just firmly believe in honoring the students that have work hard to earn good grades, and help them continue their education and hopefully they will return to the community to serve in some capacity,” said Riddle.

Others recognized during this event include the SCHS top five percent of the Junior class, Sophomore class, Freshman class and also SCMS Top five percent of the six, seventh and eighth grades.

Tickets are available for purchase at the SCHS or SCMS at a cost of $15 per ticket.  The students being recognized are provided a ticket at no charge.

Tomorrow night’s event is at The Georgia Baptist Conference Center and Riddle says the Rotary Club decided to move back to that location to help make the event a little more special.

“We have had it there in past years, but most recently at the High School which is a fantastic facility, but with other award programs there already we felt this move would make it a little more special for the students,” said Riddle.
