Run-off Early Voting Concludes Today in Stephens Co.

Anyone who wants to vote early in Stephens County for the county commission Post Two run-off has today yet to cast a ballot.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran said today is the last day for early voting for next Tuesday’s run-off election between incumbent Debbie Whitlock and challenger Kenny Yearwood.

“We are open at 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. Friday, July 22,” said Cochran. “That is the last day of early voting.”

Early voting takes place at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, which is located in the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

Anyone who does not vote early or by a mail-in, paper absentee ballot will have to go to the Stephens County Senior Center on Tuesday in order to vote.

Meanwhile, Cochran said early voting has gone well with no problems at the polls.

“The first week was busy,” said Cochran. “I was pleased with the turnout, but it has been steadily decreasing.”

According to Cochran, there have been 672 in-person early votes cast and 180 absentee mail votes returned.

Cochran said he hopes today’s final day for early voting will bring a lot of people to the polls to cast a ballot.

Voters do need to remember their picture ID in order to cast a ballot.

As a reminder, this is a Republican run-off so only those who voted Republican in the May primary, those who voted non-partisan in the May primary, or those registered voters who did not vote at all in the May primary can vote in the run-off election.

Those who voted Democratic ballots in the May primary cannot vote in the run-off.
