SCHS Band, Auxiliary Banquet Held

Stephens County High School announces its Band and Auxiliary award winners for 2016.

The Stephens County High School Band and Auxiliary held their annual awards ceremony Tuesday night, May 17th, in the Tugaloo Center for the Performing Arts at the high school.

Seniors were presented plaques.

Also, the Drum Majors for the upcoming season were announced.

They are Rachel Arnold and Zach Mace.

Both of them will be attending the University of Georgia Drum Major Camp this month courtesy of music scholarships provided by the Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation.

Brent Stovall is the Chairman of the Steve Stovall Music Scholarship Foundation.

He said the Foundation was established in 1974 in memory of Steve Stovall, who was student conductor of the band.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the foundation and with the band,” said Stovall. “We try to give somewhere in the neighborhood of five to six thousand dollars in scholarships a year. Sometimes, it is more. Sometimes, it is less. We are sending two to the University of Georgia marching band camp this year. We are also doing some special needs for the band. Over the years, we have done uniforms, we have done instruments, we have done private lessons. It has been a good ride.”

The foundation will also help purchase some instruments and other equipment needed for the upcoming marching band season.

Stovall said he appreciates those who help make the scholarships a reality.

“I would like to give thanks to some people that help a lot,” said Stovall. “Cannot do it alone. We have 1st Franklin Financial; McClure, Ramsey, Dickerson, and Escoe; and Ed Burton accountants. Without those guys, it would almost be impossible now.”
