SCHS Golfer Headed to States

A Stephens County High School golfer is headed to the AAAA state tournament later this month.

The Indians’ Cooper Dalrymple qualified for the state tournament by finishing tied for seventh in the AAAA sectional tournament Monday at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.

Dalrymple shot a 74 at the sectional tournament, two shots off of the low score, to qualify for states at Jones Creek Golf Club in Augusta on May 16.

This continues a strong tournament season for Dalrymple.

He finished second at the Region 8-AAAA tournament as an individual, shooting a 75 at Lane Creek in Bishop last month and losing in a playoff to North Hall’s Bartley Forrester.

As a team, Stephens County’s boys finished fourth in the region and qualified for the sectionals, where they finished 13th.

Also contributing to the Indians’ fourth place region finish were Luke Thomas, who shot a 90; Luke Ramsey, who shot a 91; Jay Stowe, who shot a 92; Micah Childs, who shot a 95; and Chase Fleming, who shot a 99.

As for the Lady Indian golfers, their season ended with a sixth place finish in last month’s region tournament.

The low golfer for the Lady Indians at the region tournament was Andi Brock, who shot a 100.

Other finishers were Breanna Leverett, who shot a 102; Sydney Craig, who shot a 115, and Abby Akin, who shot a 119.
