SCHS Hoops Opens Region Play on Road

The Stephens County Indian boys’ basketball team starts out region play with a win.

On Friday, the Indians led throughout, at one point by 20 points, and beat Chestatee, 55-43 on the road in Hall County in the Region 8-AAAA opener for both teams.

Ty Nails scored 11 points, all in the first half, to lead the Indian offense.

Donovan Hernandez scored 11 points to lead Chestatee.

The win moves Stephens County to 13-4 overall and 1-0 in region play, while Chestatee drops to 0-1 in the region.

Moving to the girls’ game, the Lady Indians came up just short in a back-and-forth affair against Chestatee, losing 34-30.

Chestatee’s Lindsay Caudell hit two free throws with 3.8 seconds to go to put the game away for the Lady War Eagles, who made seven three-pointers.

Caudell led Chestatee with 10 points, while Kayla Watson had nine points.

Kentasia Trimier led Stephens County and all scorers with 16 points.

The Lady Indians are now 5-12 overall and 0-1 in the region, while Chestatee’s girls are 7-9 overall and 1-0 in the region.

Stephens County has off until Friday when it hosts Monroe Area in another region game.

Tip-off for the girls’ game Friday is 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
