SCHS Softball Edges Rabun Co.

A late comeback propels the Stephens County High School softball team to a non-region win.

The Lady Indians came from behind to beat Rabun County, 2-1, at the Reservation in Toccoa on Monday.

Trailing 1-0, Stephens County tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kayley Sellers hit a two out single to score Karly Smith.

Then in the seventh inning, Raina Mayfield had a walk off single to score Peyton Terrell for the win.

In the circle, the Lady Indians were led by Ivey Andrews, who pitched 3 1/3 innings, and Emma Whitfield, who pitched the final 3 and 2/3 innings.

Together, Whitfield and Andrews threw a combined no-hitter, allowing just an unearned run and striking out eight.

At the plate, the Indians were led by Karly Smith’s 2 for 3 effort with a run scored.

Kayley Sellers was also 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The win puts the Lady Indians’ record at 8-1 overall.

Their next game is today at Jefferson.
