SCHS Splits Basketball With White Co.

The Stephens County Lady Indians won their first game of the season Tuesday night.

After losing a 14-point lead in the second quarter, the Lady Indians managed to hold on to a 60-55 win over the Lady Warriors of White County at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.

Stephens County led 25-19 at the half, but White County stormed back and actually led several times in the fourth quarter before the Lady Indians came back again and held on for the win.

Mya Cleveland led the Lady Indians with 19 points. Kentasia Trimier chipped in with 13 points and Kaitlin Phillips scored 11 points.

Jordan Taylor led White County with 22 poins.

The Lady Indians are now 1-3 on the season, while the Lady Warriors fell to 2-3.

In the boys’ game, senior Whit Mauney scored 34 points to lead White County to a 71-57 win over Stephens County.

Bradley Hurst added 11 points for the Warriors.

Stephens County was led by Tay Jones with 14 points and Deundra Singleton added 13 points.

The loss evened the Indian boys’ record at 2-2 while White County’s boys are now 4-1.

The Indians and Lady Indians host the Johnson Knights Friday at 7 p.m.
