SCSO Arrests Two For Burglary

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office says two alleged burglars are under arrest after getting caught in the act.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that his office had placed an area of West Currahee Street on extra patrol due to a recent burglary in the area.

Shirley said deputies patrolling that area last Wednesday just before midnight then saw something that got their attention.

“Deputies observed a car that was parked on West Currahee Street and as a result of their suspicions and getting out and checking a house, they found the door open and found two suspects hiding within the house,” said Shirley. “The male suspect tried to elude the deputies, but was captured shortly thereafter and both were arrested.”

According to the sheriff, the two people arrested are 24-year-old Douglas Lewis and 45-year-old Charity Boswell, both of Mt. Airy.

Shirley said the two suspects claimed to be homeless and looking for somewhere to stay.

However, the sheriff said it was apparent that they had entered the residence to steal items, explaining that the two suspects had been gathering items in stacks to remove from the home.

“They also had backpacks full of items that were inside the house and both of them are charged with Burglary in the Second Degree,” said Shirley.

Shirley said Lewis was also charged with Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, in addition to the Burglary charge.

The sheriff went on to say that both were in custody at the Stephens County Detention Center at last report.
