Second FY 18 Budget Hearing Yesterday at BOE Meeting

The Stephens County Board of Education had their second hearing regarding the fiscal year 18 budget during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that they’re expecting revenues to exceed expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year and explained what else this budget will include.

“This budget also offers our local taxpayers a one mil rollback from 18.3 to 17.3,” said Dorsey. “We’re also able to honor the Governor’s and the Legislator’s request about adding a 2 percent salary increase for our teachers. There were some other increases that the board was kind enough to offer last year to our classified employees, a 3 percent raise. So we’re able to meet all those increases to our salary, meet our budget expenditures and still roll back the millage rate.”

Dorsey said the budget will be approved at the regular board meeting in June and he doesn’t anticipate any new changes from now to then.
