Seven Apply For BOE Vacancy

The Stephens County Board of Education has seven names on the list to choose from to fill one of its two currently vacant seats.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that seven people have applied to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Jeff Webb from the board in late April.

Those names are T. Craig Beatty, Choyce Watson, Bill Wheeler, Clint Simmons, Patricia Chism, Dave Stancil, and Isaac White.

The deadline to have applied for the vacant seat on the board representing District 2 was Friday, May 27.

However, Dorsey said he would accept any applications that were postmarked on the 27th or before.

District 2 covers parts of northern and northeastern Stephens County and candidates looking to fill the seat must live in the district.

Last month, the Stephens County Board of Education agreed to interview the candidates that applied to fill Webb’s seat before selecting someone.

There has not been any date set yet for those interviews to take place.

Whoever is chosen by the Board of Education to fill Webb’s seat will serve the remainder of his term, which runs through the end of 2018.

Webb’s seat is one of two that is currently vacant on the Board of Education.

The other vacancy was created last week when Jim Ledford resigned from the school board for personal reasons one day after losing his re-election bid in the Republican primary to Mark Smith.

Ledford’s term runs through the end of this year.
